About Us

The Wellness of Women Living with HIV Project, known as the WoW+ Project, is an initiative led by the ID team at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and spearheaded by Dr. Anjanna Kukreja and her team. Its primary aim is to enhance the overall well-being and provide inclusive healthcare services for women living with HIV (WLWH) across all socioeconomic backgrounds. With advancements in antiretroviral therapy, WLWH can now lead longer, more fulfilling lives. As they age, it becomes crucial to address all aspects of women's health, such as cervical cancer screening, mental health, metabolic well-being and many others. Currently, ID physicians or HIV care clinicians serve as the primary healthcare providers for these women, underscoring the importance of equipping them to deliver comprehensive, holistic care. The WoW+ Project also aims to pioneer a Women’s Wellness Clinic in University Malaya Medical Centre, the first in the country, dedicated to delivering holistic services to all WLWH during their HIV follow-up. In pursuit of our goal, the WoW+ Project is actively engaged in conducting a range of research initiatives, including implementation science studies and other relevant investigations within the premises of the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). These research endeavors are aimed at generating valuable insights and evidence to support the establishment of a pioneering Women's Wellness Clinic. By leveraging the expertise and resources available at UMMC, we aspire to create a comprehensive model of care that addresses the diverse needs of women living with HIV during their follow-up visits. Additionally, we envision the WoW+ Project serving as a collaborative platform, fostering research partnerships and knowledge exchange not only within the country but also throughout the region. Through these collaborative efforts, we aim to advance the understanding of women's health in the context of HIV and contribute to the development of effective interventions and policies

Hibiscus: A Symbol

We chose hibiscus as the flower to symbolise our mission in this project. The red colour of Malaysia's national flower represents the red ribbon colour of universal symbol of awareness and support for people living with HIV, and it also represents courage and life. The 5-petals of the hibiscus represents the five aspect of health in women living with HIV that we focuses on, with the center of the flower symbolizing women living with HIV.
